Ashfield District Council is upgrading the theatre at Sutton Community Academy, which will be rebranded and opened to the public as Cornerstone Theatre later in 2025. The venue will become a new multifunctional community space, designed to host a wide range of high-quality performances and events. It will offer residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy professional theatre productions, cinematic experiences, music and comedy nights, as well as accommodate other community uses.
Zabou was invited to paint a large section of the exterior of the building, comprising three expansive walls. The mural features a series of portraits inspired by the theatre experience and the new venue’s colourful branding. On the main wall, a young girl named Valentina is shown watching a performance, mesmerised; on the opposite side, a dancer, Hannah, and a singer, Teme, are depicted performing. The project, covering 250m2, took a couple of weeks to complete.
La municipalité d’Ashfield modernise le théâtre de la Sutton Community Academy, qui sera rebaptisé et ouvert au public sous le nom de Cornerstone Theatre à la fin de l’année 2025. Le lieu deviendra un nouvel espace communautaire polyvalent, conçu pour accueillir un large éventail de spectacles et d’événements de haute qualité. Il offrira aux habitants et aux visiteurs l’opportunité d’assister à des productions théâtrales professionnelles, des projections de films, des soirées musicales et comiques, tout en répondant à d’autres besoins communautaires.
Zabou a été invitée à peindre une grande partie de la façade du bâtiment, composée de trois vastes murs. La fresque présente une série de portraits inspirés de l’expérience théâtrale et de l’identité visuelle colorée du nouveau lieu. Sur le mur principal, une jeune fille nommée Valentina est représentée, fascinée par un spectacle ; de l’autre côté, une danseuse, Hannah, et un chanteur, Teme, sont illustrés en pleine performance. Le projet, couvrant 250 m², a nécessité quelques semaines de travail pour être achevé.
