The Palace of the Woman, a jewel of the Belle Époque architecture, is located in the 11th district of Paris. Built in 1912, it became the property of the Salvation Army in 1926. More than 600 rooms, located in the five floors, allow to house women in precarious situation.
Invited by Garidell14 in partnership with the Salvation Army, Zabou painted the portrait of Josephine Baker, an American-born French dancer, singer and actress. The indoor mural stretches across a challenging space near the entrance of the building: a curved wall with multiple doors. The artwork combines a glowing and smiling portrait of Baker, after a photo by Carl Van Vechten, with Art Deco inspired elements and colours.

 

Le Palais de la Femme, un joyau de l’architecture de la Belle Époque, est situé dans le 11ème arrondissement de Paris. Construit en 1912, il est devenu la propriété de l’Armée du Salut en 1926. Plus de 600 chambres, réparties sur cinq étages, permettent d’héberger des femmes en situation précaire.

Invitée par Garidell14 en partenariat avec l’Armée du Salut, Zabou a peint le portrait de Joséphine Baker, une danseuse, chanteuse et actrice franco-américaine. La fresque s’étend sur un espace complexe près de l’entrée du bâtiment : un mur intérieur courbé avec plusieurs portes. L’œuvre d’art combine un portrait lumineux et souriant de Baker, inspiré d’une photo de Carl Van Vechten, avec des éléments et des couleurs inspirés de l’Art Déco.
